Guide to RFA operating processes for biofuel suppliers and traders

Jan 2008

This guide is designed for directors, managers and staff of biofuel suppliers and others wishing to participate in the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO). The RTFO imposes an obligation on fossil fuel suppliers to supply biofuels, and tradeable Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates (or RTFCs or “certificates”) will be issued for the supply of biofuel in the UK. There may be a commercial advantage to you to participate in the scheme.
This guide provides detailed assistance with:

  • applying for an account with the Renewable Fuels Agency (RFA);
  • providing information on fuel supplies to the RFA;
  • providing information on the carbon intensity and sustainability of renewable fuels supplied;
  • applying for Renewable Transport Fuel (RTF) Certificates;
  • trading RTF certificates;
  • claiming a share of any recycle fund; and
  • maintaining account details and managing other interactions with the RFA.
