This document contains a summary of the recent Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) of the UK Government.
The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation is one of the Government’s main policies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from road transport. The RTFO will commence on 15 April 2008 and is intended to deliver reductions in carbon dioxide emissions from the road transport sector of 2.6 - 3.0 million tonnes per annum (equivalent to carbon savings of 700,000 - 800,000 tonnes) by 2010, by encouraging the supply of renewable fuels.
