Mexico has its sights set on becoming a major player in the production and consumption of renewable jet fuels.“Mexico is in a privileged position, compared with other countries, to become one of the driving forces in the development of biofuels for the aeronautical industry,” said the director of Mexico’s Airports and Auxiliary Services, or ASA, Gilberto Lopez Meyer. Mexican authorities, in coordination with the agricultural sector and the private sector, have spent the past year exploring and researching second-generation, non-consumable plants and vegetable oils that could be used as the source of biofuel for airplanes.
