Food crisis and biofuels are often associated. According to FAO, though, a primary cause for food crisis is the rapid increase and diversification of food demand, particularly in emerging economies like China and India. A reason for the current  inadequate food offer, on the other hand, can be found in natural disasters (floods and droughts) responsible for a drastic reduction in agricultural production, and in protectionist measures applied both by USA and EU through subsidies to agricultural production.
