GBEP advances capacity building for sustainable bioenergy

Rome, Friday 16 November 2012 – The 14th Steering Committee of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) met at FAO Headquarters today and endorsed the way forward for the GBEP programme of work, under the reconfirmed chairmanship of Corrado Clini, Minister of Environment of Italy, and Mariangela Rebuá, Director General of the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, for the next biennium (2013-2014). The Steering Committee appreciated the discussions of the GBEP Working Group on Capacity Building focused on “sustainable modern wood energy development” and on the cooperation with IRENA  to develop a “Global Bioenergy Atlas”. It welcomed the important progress made in the ongoing capacity building activities to facilitate sustainable modern bioenergy at the regional level and commended commended Partners and Observers for their hard commitment regarding the implementation of GBEP sustainability indicators for bioenergy towards the promotion of a vibrant, sustainable bioenergy sector.
