06 Jun 07

A draft of global principles for sustainable biofuel production and processing has been approved by the Steering Board of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB) and presented to stakeholders for comment. RSB is an international initiative that aims to bring together farmers, companies, non-governmental organizations, experts, governments, and intergovernmental agencies concerned with ensuring the sustainability of biofuels production and processing. The main principles include that biofuel production should comply with all local and national laws, result in lower GHG emissions compared to fossil fuels, avoid negative environmental impacts at local and global level, lead to the well-being of communities, workers and rural populations and safeguard food security.
