Bioenergy is forecast to cover 20 percent of world energy demand by 2030, rising to 30-40 percent in 2060. That’s according to Corrado Clini, chairman of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), who presented the report “A Review of the Current State of Bioenergy Development in G8 +5 Countries” at the World Energy Congress in Rome yesterday. The report, drawn up by the GBEP, underlines the need to resolve potential conflicts between biofuel production, the protection of the environment, sustainable development and food security for the rural poor.
