Fuels derived from non-fossil organic sources (biomass) may account for 20 percent of world energy demand in 2030, climbing to 30-40 percent in 2060. These are figures revealed in the report of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), presented at the 20th World Energy Congress. The aim of the report, said Alexander Muller, assistant director general of the FAO, at a press conference, “is to take a first step towards guiding biofuel growth with sustainable criteria.”
