Looking Ahead - GBEP Programme of Work 2023
A busy year awaits GBEP’s technical groups in 2023, with several activities and meetings planned for the Task Force on Sustainability and the different Activity Groups of the Working Group on Capacity Building.
In 2023, the Working Group on Capacity Building will host a series of webinars and capacity development events focusing on several topics, including the implementation of GBEP Sustainability Indicators, woody biomass for forest landscape restoration, biohydrogen, biogas, and advanced liquid biofuels. These topics will also be discussed during the 10th Bioenergy Week, which in 2023 will be hosted by Viet Nam. The Bioenergy Week will also be an occasion for GBEP to strengthen its focus on youth by presenting the GBEP Youth Award 2023, where outstanding research by youth in Asia and the Pacific will be recognised. In addition, the WGCB will continue its work on links between bioenergy and food and nutrition security, expanding its collection of good practices. Finally, the WGCB will carry on with its effort of capacity development and outreach, developing dissemination material for visibility and awareness, renewing the GBEP website and increasing its presence on social media. The GBEP Secretariat will also participate either as speaker or moderator in several international events.
The activities planned within the Task Force on Sustainability will span two main workstreams, covering the implementation of GBEP’s Sustainability Indicators, and bioenergy within the broader bioeconomy. Under the first, the TFS plans to submit project proposals incorporating GBEP’s Sustainability Indicators on Bioenergy whilst piloting the related Rapid Implementation Framework. The data entry sheets, which are designed to facilitate implementation of the GBEP indicators, will also be expanded to envelop additional bioenergy pathways on top of those related to agricultural crops already developed. Under the second workstream, the Task Force will strengthen its focus on the bioeconomy, by bringing together Partners and Observers with specific expertise in this topic at focused workshops and events, and with the development of an infographic as well as two technical papers on the role of bioenergy in the context of the broader bioeconomy, and possible applications for the Sustainability Indicators.
If you are interested in contributing to any of the aforementioned activities or would like more information on the programme of work for 2023, please feel free to email the Secretariat ([email protected]).
