GBEP focusing on Eastern Europe bioenergy potential at Bucharest side event

The Global Bioenergy Partnership is placing special attention on the bioenergy potential of eastern Europe with a side event organised in Bucharest in occasion of the RomEnvirotec-Sep trade fair.

The GBEP event – “Opportunities and challenges for a sustainable development of bioenergy” – will be held at the Romexpo Exhibitional Centre in Bucharest, Romania, on 22 April. The agenda has been specifically arranged in order to give a clear overview of the bioenergy potential in eastern European countries.

Following a welcome and introduction by the GBEP Secretariat, Maurizio Sabatti of the University of Tuscia’s department of forest science and resources will talk about biofuels as a solution for the mitigation of greenhouse-gas emissions. Luca Belelli Marchesini, from consulting firm Agrotec, will present case studies for combining environmental benefits with Kyoto Protocol targets.

Stephane Senechal will describe the European Biomass Industry Association’s (EUBIA) experiences and views on the opportunities to promote biofuel production in central and eastern Europe. An insight into Italy’s perspective on meeting European Union targets for bioenergy production and consumption will be provided by Giuseppe Caserta from the Italian Biomass Association (ITABIA).

The GBEP side event has been scheduled during RomEnvirotec-Sep, a trade fair dedicated to the environmental sector in Romania and which is being held on 21-24 April. RomEnvirotec-Sep is organised by Italy’s Padovafiere in collaboration with Romexpo, the top Romanian fair operator.
