| GBEP agenda for 2010 and other events
GBEP’s calendar of activities will continue in 2010, focusing on events in Europe and Africa ahead of the G8 Summit, to be held in Canada in late June.
A round table with leading representatives from the private sector is to be held in Amsterdam on 16 March in occasion of World Biofuels Markets, a three-day conference boasting 200 world-class speakers and more than 1,000 participants. It will feature 11 focused conferences on topics including algae fuels, energy crops, indirect land-use change, aviation, biofuel standards and biorefineries. World Biofuels Markets is the leading industry networking event where, each year, the leaders of the biofuel world convene to meet new customers, suppliers and help drive innovation and business.
World Biofuels Markets will also be the backdrop to GBEP task force and technical meetings, kindly hosted by the Netherlands (exact location to be confirmed). The task forces on sustainability and GHG methodologies are due to convene while the technical working group is due to consider the creation of a new task force on the deployment of technologies for sustainable bioenergy.
Early May will see the ninth meeting of the GBEP Steering Committee held in Tunisia. This may also be an occasion to hold further task force and technical meetings.
Among other events of interest:
• The Inter-American Development Bank and United Nations Environment Programme will hold an Implementation Workshop at the IDB in Washington DC on January 25–26. The event aims to bring together biofuel producers, auditors and sustainability criteria authors to discuss practical challenges to implementing and complying with sustainability criteria, and to brainstorm potential solutions for piloting and further study
• GBEP, Mossi & Ghisolfi and Il Sole 24 Ore will hold the third Bio-Ethanol Conference in Turin on 2 March highlighting Italian progress in moving to second-generation biofuel technologies. You can find more information on the event website
• Biomass Trade & Power, a conference supported by IEA Bioenergy Task 40 and the Port of Rotterdam, will be held on 11-12 March in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.The conference aims to analyse bioenergy developments in the EU and other regions and tackle issues such as the establishment of biomass trading as a real commodity market
• The 18th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition will take place in Lyon, France, on 3-7 May. The conference will cover the entire range of bioenergy issues: resource availability, conversion technologies, demonstration projects, integration in the energy system, environmental impact and market deployment as well as the need for policy actions.
