GBEP agenda for the rest of 2010 and other events

The following events are scheduled as part of the GBEP programme of work:

  • 9th Task Force on Sustainability and 8th Task Force on GHG Methodologies (pending confirmation), to be held in Rome at FAO Headquarters on 29 September - 1 October
  • 10th GBEP Steering Committee meeting, to be held in Rome at FAO Headquarters in November. Task Forces and Technical Working Group meetings will be held prior to the Steering Committee meeting.

Further details about these events will be provided by the GBEP Secretariat in due course and posted on the events section of the GBEP website.

GBEP is planning to organise a side event during the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference 2010 (DIREC 2010) to present and discuss the GBEP’s accomplishments in promoting global efforts to scale up renewable energy. The event will also discuss the new areas of work for the Partnership to facilitate capacity building and technology co-operation for sustainable bioenergy. DIREC 2010 will be held on October 27-29 and the GBEP side event – “Contributing to scaling up sustainable bioenergy” – is slated for October 27.

DIREC 2010 is the fourth of the International Renewable Energy Conferences, which followed from the initiative taken at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, acknowledging the significance of renewable energies for sustainable development – especially for combating poverty and for environmental and climate protection. DIREC 2010 is an international platform for government, private sector and civil society to jointly address the goal of advancing renewable energy. It will build upon the success of the previous events in Washington in 2008 (WIREC), Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004.
