GBEP to focus on capacity building and practical co-operation

G20 Agriculture Ministers’ meeting on food prices backs GBEP work

The Global Bioenergy Partnership has worked since its inception back in 2005 on the basis of mandates received from successive G8 summits. The latest expression of support came most recently from the Deauville G8 Summit in France in May. This backing has now been reinforced by an explicit statement of support from the gathering in June of G20 Agriculture Ministers.

IPCC outlines potential of renewables for mitigation of GHG emissions as IEA charts outlook for biofuels 

Close to 80% of the world’s energy supply could be met by renewables by mid-century if backed by the right policies, a new IPCC report for policymakers shows. The findings, from over 120 researchers working with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), also indicate that the rising penetration of renewable energy sources could lead to cumulative greenhouse gas savings between 2010 and 2050.

Global Bioenergy Perspectives: UK body proposes ethical framework for biofuels

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics, an independent British body that examines and reports on ethical issues in biology and medicine, has published a report setting out an ethical framework to guide policy making for biofuels.
