The 20th meeting GBEP Steering Committee endorses 2018 programme of work

The GBEP Steering Committee held its 20th meeting on 1 December 2017 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, co chaired by Italy (Mr. Cristiano Piacente, Coordinator at the Sustainable Development Division of the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea) and Brazil (Mr. Antonio Ricarte, Deputy Permanent Representative to FAO, IFAD and WFP). It reviewed all 2017 activities and endorsed the future programme of work for the Partnership.

GBEP Working Group on Capacity Building for Sustainable Bioenergy: roundup of 2017 and new activities for 2018

The GBEP Working Group on Capacity Building for Sustainable Bioenergy (WGCB) held its 9th meeting on 30 November 2017 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, co-chaired by Mr. Miguel Almada from Argentina and Mr. Bah F. M. Saho from ECREEE/ECOWAS. The meeting focused on discussions on existing and on the new potential AG7 (Biogas) and AG8 (Advanced Biofuels).

Working towards a refinement of the GBEP Sustainability Indicators for Bioenergy: the 15th meeting of the GBEP Task Force on Sustainability

The GBEP Task Force on Sustainability (TFS) held its 15th meeting on 29 November 2017 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, and welcomed the three new Co-Chairs: Mr. Takashi Hayashi (Japan), Ms. Annalisa Zezza (Italy) and Mr. Ahmed Abdelati Ahmed (Egypt), supporting the Co-Chair Mr. Kwabena Ampadu Otu-Danquah (Ghana). It focused on enhancing the practicality of the GBEP Sustainability Indicators (GSIs) and discussing the cross-cutting issues for the implementation of the GSIs.

Global Bioenergy Perspectives: The new IEA Technology Roadmap: delivering sustainable bioenergy

The new IEA Technology Roadmap, released in November 2017,  re-examines the role of bioenergy in light of changes to the energy landscape over the past five years as well as recent experience in bioenergy policy, market development and regulation. It identifies the technical, policy and financial barriers to deployment, and suggests a range of solutions to overcome them. This IEA Technology Roadmap complements the analysis of current market trends and the forecast of likely market developments for bioenergy in the transport, electricity and heating sectors over the next five years that are contained in the annual IEA Renewables Market Report publications.
