Programme of Work
The Partnership agreed to base its activities on three main pillars:
Energy Security - Food Security - Sustainable Development.
As identified in the Terms of Reference, in the short term - over the first 2-5 years - the Partnership will seek to:
- Facilitate the sustainable development of bioenergy and collaboration on bioenergy field projects for market building activities, in cooperation with developing countries;
- Formulate a harmonized methodological framework on GHG emission reduction measurement from the use of biofuels for transportation and from the use of solid biomass for bioenergy field projects;
- Update the inventory of existing networks, initiatives and institutions dealing with bioenergy;
- Identify gaps in knowledge or areas of weak understanding;
- Establish mechanisms for raising awareness and dealing with issues of international relevance (e.g. environmental standards, food security, trade);
GBEP developed its first Report "A Review of the Current State of Bioenergy Development in G8 +5 Countries." Released on 13 November 2007, the Report provides a platform for future GBEP work towards the sustainbale development of bioenergy.
The short term actions were selected as a result of the analysis carried out in the White Paper.
