The Activity Group 2 “Raising awareness, and sharing of data and experience on the implementation of the GBEP indicators”, co-led by Germany and Indonesia, was established in November 2011. The main objectives of the Activity Group 2 are to learn from experience of using the GBEP indicators in the field, in different countries with different circumstances in climate, biodiversity, social and economic conditions; share knowledge and information in order to overcome problems, find solutions and improve the methodological application of the indicators; secure a common interpretation of the indicators; and raise awareness of GBEP sustainability indicators as a valuable tool to be introduced to other countries and regions.
ACTIVITIES
Implementation of the GBEP Indicators
The Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) has developed a set of 24 relevant, practical, science-based, voluntary sustainability indicators that address all forms of bioenergy. The GBEP indicators are the result of the only initiative seeking to build consensus among a broad range of national governments and international institutions on the sustainability of bioenergy. Measured over time, they will show progress towards or away from the sustainable development path as determined nationally.
- The GBEP indicators have been implemented in several countries:
- Relevant documents
- Note on lessons learnt and recommendations emerging from testing/implementation of the GBEP Sustainability Indicators
- Report “Lessons learned in testing the Global Bio-Energy Partnership sustainability indicators”
- In order to evaluate their feasibility and enhance their practicality as a tool for policymaking, experiences from the implementation of the GBEP Sustainability Indicators have been collected in a template for each country:
- Argentina
- Colombia
- Egypt
- Germany
- Ghana
- Indonesia
- Jamaica
- Japan
- Netherlands
- Paraguay
- Viet Nam
- Trainings on the GBEP indicators have also been organized in:
- Cuba (technical assistance report)
- Jamaica
- The Philippines
- Togo and Ghana
